Cold Winter & A Hot Market - Great Time to List!
There's something magical about the start of a new year. I have more energy to get organized, tackle projects I've put off, and make new memories with friends and family. New Year's provides a fresh outlook on jobs, school, vacations, and even the housing market.
Despite the cold weather, the housing market is HOT right now! With inventory being low and interest rates slowly on the rise, now is the perfect time to buy and sell and beat the Spring rush.
Is your house on the market? Are you thinking about listing? Try these tips to get your house sold quickly, so you can have a new beginning in 2017.
- Let the light in! January through March tend to be darker and colder months here in Virginia, but that doesn't mean your home needs to feel that way. Open the blinds and curtains, and turn on lamps and overhead lights to help show your home in the best light.
- There's nothing like relaxing with friends and family in a warm, cozy home, and your buyers will want the same thing. Make sure your HVAC systems are in great working order and maybe even turn the heat up a couple of degrees. I tend to keep my house chilly, but if it were on the market, I'd want potential buyers to feel comfortable when they walked in.
- Don't be afraid of holiday decorations! Even though the excitement of the December holidays are behind us, you can still decorate to create an inviting space for guests. Fresh wreaths and the warm glow of artificial candles on a table centerpiece can go a long way with how potential buyers see your home.
- It's unrealistic to think our yards are going to look amazing in the middle of winter, but there are a few things you can do to add curb appeal. Plant some evergreens in pots on your front porch, clean up leaves and debris from the yard, clean out your gutters, and prune shrubs and trees. Last but certainly not least, keep walkways and steps safe and dry. Make sure exterior doors, garages, and sheds are accessible for buyers, so they can look at your property safely.
Let's ring in the New Year with lots of showings! And who knows...maybe you'll be in your new home before the weather warms up.
